You will travel in a comfortable air-conditioned vehicle to Sabarmati Ashram Gaushala, Gandhi Ashram, Progeny Testing Centre at Mehsana, Adalaj stepwell.

Sabarmati Ashram Gaushala, Bidaj


Sabarmati Ashram Gaushala, is an epicentre for various biotechnical interventions for dairy breeding in India. The centre is the largest semen production facility holding around 600 bulls of various breeds at one place. The state-of-the-art semen processing lab and enormity of operations attracts professionals across the country to this centre.

Gandhi Ashram


The Gandhi Ashram, located in Sabarmati, Ahmedabad, Gujarat, is one of the most significant historical and cultural sites in India. It was established by Mahatma Gandhi in 1917 and served as his residence and the centre for the Indian freedom struggle. Tourist attractions are Hriday Kunj, the museum, the spinning wheel, and the prayer ground.

Progeny Testing Project, Mehsana


It is the oldest Progeny Testing project in the country, supported by NDDB since the 1980s. The project operates in 90 centres. The visitors will see how the performance recording activities are carried out at in the small holder system, village level milk collection activities, digitized records and the transparent payment system. There will be opportunity to interact with farmers, Artificial Insemination technicians and professionals involved in genetic improvement programme.

Adalaj Stepwell


A masterpiece of Indian architecture and an UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Adalaj stepwell is a stunning example of how ancient people blended beauty with functionality in the structures to store and access water.

During the visit, you will be taken in a comfortable air-conditioned vehicle to the internationally renowned AMUL dairy, Tribhuvandas Food Complex and a village with multifaceted initiatives for dairy sustainability.

Anand Milk Union Limited (AMUL dairy)


The Kaira District Milk Producers Union Ltd., popularly known as AMUL (Sanskrit meaning ‘Priceless’), is the oldest dairy cooperative in country. Starting its journey with the farmers of two villages and 250 litres of milk per day, it now handles more than 2.5 million litres of milk per day and provides livelihood to 3.6 million farmers.

Tribhuvandas Food Complex


The Tribhuvandas Food Complex, Mogar, manufactures AMUL chocolate, bakery products, and indigenous sweets. It is a state-of-the-art facility inducted in 2018 with a daily capacity of 36 metric tons of chocolate production.

Mujkuva Cooperative Society


Mujkuva is a small village near Anand. It is unique because it has cooperative societies associated with dairy, manure, solar and organic crop production. Mujkuva Sakhi Khad Sahakari Mandali is the first women-led manure cooperative in India; Mujkuva Solar Pump Irrigators Cooperative Enterprise helps farmers in generating and utilizing solar energy for irrigation and facilitates them to sell excess energy to the grid; and Mujkuva Organic Farmers Cooperative Society are all part of this integrated advanced milk collection system and environmental initiatives. The village also has a community fodder farm. Major attractions will be the dairy farm, flexi biogas plant and solar cooperative.

You will visit OPU-IVEP-ET facility, genomics lab and state-of-the-art analytical facility of NDDB.

OPU-IVEP-ET Facility


The lab visit includes insight into a state-of-the-art research and development as well as training facility on Ovum Pick-Up, In-vitro Embryo Production, and Embryo Transfer (OPU-IVEP-ET). It also reveals the development of bovine IVF technology in India and its potential applications in small holder dairying systems.

Genomics Lab


Genomic lab provides facility of estimation of Genomic Breeding Value (GBV) to farmers, semen stations and various institutions for assessment of breed composition. Genomic lab also has a DNA repository.

The Centre for Analysis and Learning in Livestock and Food (CALF)


NDDB CALF LTD (NCL) is a state-of-the-art testing facility for various analytical and proficiency testing services. Services include analysis of milk and milk products and animal feed, genetical testing and diagnosis of bovine diseases. CALF is accredited by the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) and is recognized by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Export Inspection Council (EIC) and Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) for analysis of various food products. It is also the National Reference Laboratory (NRL) for milk and milk products.

NDDB’s Parikrama is an immersive audio-visual display gallery that showcases the remarkable evolution of Indian small holder dairying, ultimately leading to India becoming the largest producer of milk globally. NDDB pioneered the concept of milk cooperatives and has nurtured them into a movement. Parikrama highlights NDDB’s cooperative strategies and various initiatives and activities undertaken by NDDB in Productivity Enhancement, Capacity Building, Sustainability, Product Development, Creation of Modern Infrastructure and Digitalisation.
